Moran Manor :: FAQ

May I visit your health care center for a tour?
Yes – you and your family member are always welcomed to tour our health care center. We encourage you to call our Admissions Manager to set up a convenient time.
What are your visiting hours?
Our visiting hours are Monday through Sunday from 8 AM until 8 PM. However, there are times outside of this schedule when visitation may be appropriate based on circumstances. Please call us if you have special circumstances.
How often may I visit my family member in your health care center?
Please call our center for our regular visiting hours.
If I have cold or flu symptoms, may I still visit?
Please do not plan a visit if you are experiencing cold or flu symptoms. Passing a cold or a flu to any of our residents (including your own family member) could be problematic to their health and well-being. Please plan your visit when you are symptom free.
May I bring food from home for my family member during his stay at your center?
Please check with the nursing staff or dietary manager first since many of our residents must follow a special diet for health reasons. Any time you bring food from home, be sure to store it in an air-tight container. Also, plan to arrive at meal times or snack times, when the food can be eaten, since our health care center has strict guidelines for storing perishable food. No personal refrigerators in rooms.
Who can help me with decisions about my family member’s care?
The best way to sort through your options is to talk to professionals who understand these important issues. Your family member’s doctor can help explain various options for their care. Also, our Admissions Manager can help answer medical and insurance questions.
Are out-patient rehab services available?
While we do not provide direct outpatient therapy services, we do provide therapy services for residents that have been discharged from a skilled nursing facility within 30 days of their date of discharge, in our newly renovated, enlarged, and equipped rehab gym.
What is your admission process?
Our admission process is fast and easy, sometimes in as little as ten minutes and basically consists of a series of questions and verifications. Our professional staff will assist you ever step of the way to make your admission experience a smooth one.
Is a physician's order required for admission into your health care center?
Admission to a skilled nursing or long term care center does not always require a physician’s order, but the order is a condition of payment for Medicare or Medicaid. Families usually work with their doctor to decide the right time to admit a family member into a care center. Several factors such as age, diagnosis, medical history, and the capabilities of the primary caregiver could play a part in the decision. Other times, the patient is admitted to a care center following a hospital stay. But the final decision rests with the patient and the family.
Who pays for my family member’s care?
Our Admissions Manager can answer many of your questions regarding financial issues. She can also help you determine which care benefits your family member may qualify for.
What does Medicare cover?
For any eligible beneficiary needing skilled nursing or rehabilitation therapy consistent with Medicare coverage criteria, Medicare Part A coverage will pay for a semi-private room, meals, nursing services, rehabilitation services, medications, supplies and durable medical equipment for up to 100 days. For the first 20 days in a nursing home, Medicare covers 100 percent of skilled care. From Day 21 through Day 100, the resident must pay a daily co-insurance rate. Residents who are eligible for the services covered under Medicare Part B will be responsible for an annual deductible plus 20 percent of the total charges for services such as occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech therapy, as well as medical supplies. For more information on Medicare, please call our Admissions Manager.
How do I know if my family member qualifies for Medicare Part A benefits?
Your family member must have a Medicare card that reads "hospital insurance" and must have spent a minimum of three consecutive days (not counting the day of discharge) in a hospital. The hospital stay must not have occurred more than 30 days prior to entering a care center. A physician must certify that your family member needs skilled nursing or skilled rehabilitation care on a continuing basis, and the need for skilled care must relate to the reason for hospitalization.
Are there special financial provisions for veterans?
If you are a veteran or the spouse of a veteran, you may be entitled to benefits. Please call our Admissions Manager to discuss and get specifics about this important consideration.
Who chooses my family member's roommate in a semi-private room?
Before your family member is accepted for admission into our care center, our Admissions Manager will try to locate a room with someone who has a similar background and interests. If your family member wishes to move to another room at a later time, we will certainly try to accommodate him.
What safety measures are in place for residents who may wander?
If our care team determines that a resident may have a tendency to wander, the care plan will include interventions to reduce that likelihood. Sometimes, a bracelet-type device is worn by the resident and the staff is alerted if the person tries to leave the building. We encourage our residents who tend to wander to participate in activities to keep them focused on an agenda other than wandering.
What activities do you provide?
We provide a full calendar of activities for our residents. Please download our monthly Activities Calendar from the "Current Residents / Families" link on our Long Term Care page.
Is there a plan for weather emergencies?
We have a comprehensive emergency plan for weather and other unexpected occurrences. Our staff is well-versed with regular drills and updated to keep us all one step ahead of the unexpected.
